A Spring Day on The Flats

Jeff Delp and good friend Jim Jordan recently booked a half day charter with me out off O’Niell’s Marina in St Petersburg. The weather was a perfect “chamber of commerce” day. Days like this are why people move to Florida. Jeff is actually a winter visitor who works part time at O’Niell’s in boat sales while he is down here. His friend Jim is an avid sailor as well as a fishing buddy. Jim had not been out on the water for sometime and occasionally took time from casting his lure to just set back and enjoy the sun and the water and just being in the “now”. It really does my heart good to meet people like Jim who know that there is so much more to this sport than just catching fish. At the end of the day we kept enough trout for a nice fish dinner after releasing many other keeper size fish. Jeff is hoping to get another trip in before going north for the summer. I am hoping that the kingfish will show up off the beaches in time for him to get a crack at some of those speedsters. If it happens great, if not we will find something else to chase. That is one of the great things about the Tampa Bay area, there is always something to fish for.
